The principle
The test uses a single drop of blood. A smartphone and an artificial-intelligence tool analyse the sample, without bulky equipment or complex reagents.
The aim is clear:
- to enable mass screening, even in resource-limited areas
- to quickly identify affected patients
- to improve care from the very first days of life
The SCDiag project is part of an international collaboration between African and French teams, with clinical validation carried out in the field, notably in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
How it works
This study is currently being conducted to assess:
- the accuracy of the test in detecting sickle cell disease,
- its ability to distinguish between different haemoglobin phenotypes (AA, AS, SS),
- its performance in newborns, a key factor in promoting early screening.

To make diagnosis accessible to everyone, everywhere.
SCDiag could make early diagnosis and appropriate care available to more children.
