A key question remains: is it safe to use hydroxyurea during pregnancy?

This treatment is currently the most effective at reducing complications of sickle cell disease, but it is often discontinued during pregnancy due to a lack of robust scientific data.

The HU & Pregnancy project aims to answer this crucial question.

Through a clinical trial comparing different management approaches, the teams are seeking to:

  • reduce maternal complications
  • improve the health of newborns
  • make medical practice safer

 

The aim?

To make pregnancies safer for women with sickle cell disease.

This project could lead to changes in medical guidelines and transform care provision on an international scale.
