Context
During Cyclone Chido, continuity of care for people with sickle cell disease in Mayotte was at risk.
With the support of Siclopédie:
- a medical hotline was set up;
- remote specialist consultation was activated between Mayotte, Réunion and mainland France;
- the paediatric cohort was secured within three weeks.
This experience showed that the infrastructure can maintain safe follow-up even during a natural disaster.
The aim
The PHARE project builds on this work by:
- establishing sustainable regional care pathways;
- strengthening coordination;
- reducing disparities between the French overseas territories and mainland France;
- creating a model that can be reproduced in other remote territories.
Mayotte will serve as a pilot area for this new model of care.
